Celebrating Community and Generosity: Thank You to RCCG Overcomers House Taunton
YMCA Taunton was delighted to receive a generous £500 donation from RCCG Overcomers House Taunton at their African Praise in Somerset 2.0 celebration, held on Saturday 3 October 2026 at Wellsprings in Taunton.
The event was a joyful celebration of African culture, faith, music and community spirit, bringing together people from across Taunton, Somerset and the South West.
Representing YMCA Taunton at the event were Clare Langley, our CEO, and Vicki Phillips, a former YMCA Taunton Youth Worker who continues to support the charity as a volunteer.
It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our local community, recognise those making a positive difference and support local charities.
A valued community partnership

RCCG Overcomers House Taunton is a valued user of YMCA Taunton’s facilities, holding their weekly Sunday worship services at our centre, as well as prayer and choir meetings during the week.
We are proud to provide a welcoming space where local groups and organisations can come together, build connections and strengthen our community.
Our relationship with RCCG is a lovely example of how sharing community spaces can help organisations build positive relationships and support one another.
We were therefore particularly grateful to be chosen as one of the charities to benefit from their generosity.
“We are very grateful to RCCG for their generous donation of £500. It was a pleasure to attend their celebration and receive the cheque on behalf of YMCA Taunton. The money will be put to good use, supporting our work with the local community.”
Clare Langley, CEO
Celebrating and giving back
African Praise in Somerset 2.0 was about much more than music and celebration. It was also an opportunity to recognise and give back to the wider community.
The event welcomed Gideon Amos, MP for Taunton and Wellington, and Cllr Amber Packer-Hughes, with Gideon receiving a surprise Community Champion award in recognition of his support for the community.

Local African- and Asian-owned businesses were also recognised for their contributions to Taunton.
As part of the celebrations, RCCG presented donations of £500 each to three local charities:
These donations will help support the valuable work being carried out by us and the local organisations across our community.
A heartfelt thank you
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at RCCG Overcomers House Taunton for their kindness, generosity and continued support.
As an independent local charity, YMCA Taunton relies on the support of our community to help us provide opportunities for children, young people, families and people of all ages.
Donations like this help us continue our work, creating welcoming spaces, building confidence, encouraging wellbeing and bringing people together.
We are grateful not only for this generous financial contribution, but also for the positive contribution RCCG makes to the wider Taunton community throughout the year.
Congratulations to everyone involved in organising African Praise in Somerset 2.0, and thank you for showing what can be achieved when communities come together to celebrate, connect and support one another.
