YIF Building Work

In February 2024 YMCA Taunton was awarded a Youth Investment Fund Grant of £2.1M and the building work will soon commence.

The significant enhancements to our building will improve the overall amenities and accessibility for all community members. These updates aim to make YMCA Taunton more inviting and inclusive.

The extended building will allow us to expand our community-based services and enrich our current youth programs. New features will include:

  • First Floor and Two-Storey Extensions: Extending the front, side, and adding a two-storey extension to increase space.
  • Additional 230m² of Space: Creating more room for various activities and services.
  • Roof Replacement: Enhancing the building’s structural integrity and aesthetics.
  • Internal Space Renovations: Modernising and optimising existing space for better use.
  • Indoor Climbing Hall: A new facility for sports and recreation.
  • Multi-Purpose Space: Versatile area for a range of activities and events.
  • Digital, Media, and Music Production Suite: State-of-the-art facilities for creative and educational programs.
  • Chill Out Zone: Dedicated areas to support mental health and relaxation.
  • Large Training Kitchen Facility: A new space for cooking, healthy eating programs and hands-on training.
  • Platform Lift: Ensuring all floors are accessible to everyone.
  • Inclusive Toilet Facilities: New and updated facilities to meet diverse needs.
  • New External Fire Escape: Enhancing safety for all building users.

Community Support: A recent Community Survey conducted by the YMCA confirmed that these developments will be highly beneficial to both our service users and the wider community.

Committment to Biodiversity: In line with Government policy for enhancing biodiversity within development, we will also be installing bat and bird boxes on the premises.
