YMCA Taunton is delighted to announce the official opening of our new indoor climbing facility will be on 9th February 2026.
The new facility will officially be called The Wrencon Climbing Hall in recognition and thanks to the generous support of local construction company Wrencon.

To mark the opening milestone, Clare Langley, CEO of YMCA Taunton, welcomed Jake Elsmore from Wrencon to the site, joined by children from the YMCA Taunton Preschool. During the visit, Clare and the children thanked the Wrencon team for their contribution towards creating a facility that will benefit people of all ages across the community.
Ahead of the official opening, YMCA Taunton ran a series of taster sessions throughout January, welcoming 163 participants across 21 sessions. These sessions enabled people of all ages and abilities to test out the new wall.

Alongside Wrencon’s support, YMCA Taunton also successfully raised over £6,000 through a community Crowdfunder, demonstrating strong local enthusiasm for the project and helping to bring the climbing hall to life.
The purpose-built climbing hall features a range of roped climbs and auto-belays, designed to cater for beginners and experienced climbers alike. The space will be used for public sessions, group bookings, schools, and targeted programmes supporting physical health, mental wellbeing and confidence building.
“We are incredibly grateful to Wrencon and to everyone who supported our Crowdfunder to help make this project possible. The enthusiasm we saw during our January taster sessions really confirmed the demand for a climbing facility like this in Taunton. The hall is already inspiring confidence, fun and achievement, and we know it will have a lasting impact on the people we support.”
Clare Langley, CEO
As part of the ongoing partnership, the Wrencon team will soon be taking part in a team climbing session, giving them the opportunity to experience the wall first-hand and see the positive outcomes their support has helped to create.
“As a local business, we’re proud to support projects that invest in young people’s futures. The YMCA is doing brilliant work with this redevelopment, and we’re excited to be part of something that will have such a lasting, positive impact on the community.”
Jake Elsmore, Director of Wrencon Ltd
Bookings for the Wrencon Climbing Hall will open this week, with sessions available for individuals, groups and organisations. Further details will be shared via the YMCA Taunton website and social media channels.
