YMCA Taunton is thrilled to announce that we have reached the semi-finals of the prestigious YMCA Youth Matters Awards 2024. Our Community Pantry initiative has been nominated in the ‘Health & Wellbeing Project of the Year‘ category, standing out among 100 other entrants from across the nation.
The YMCA Youth Matters Awards celebrate the exceptional achievements of young people and the vital services provided by YMCAs across the UK. This nomination recognises the profound impact of our Community Pantry project, which emerged during the 2020 lockdown and has since grown into a vital resource for the Taunton community. The Pantry operates as a monthly affordable food market, supporting over 50 individuals and their families each month.
“We are incredibly honoured to be recognised for our Community Pantry initiative. This project embodies our commitment to fostering health and wellbeing within our community, and we are grateful for the support we’ve received from volunteers, donors, and local residents.”
Clare Langley, General Manager
The Community Pantry not only provides affordable food options but also plays a crucial role in helping families combat the ongoing cost of living crisis. By reducing their food bills, families can allocate the money saved towards other essentials. As one user commented, “The Community Pantry has allowed me to top up my gas and electric.”
The winners of the Youth Matters Awards will be announced in November. The decision will be made through a combination of public votes and a judging panel. Public voting is now open and will continue until 26th August. We encourage everyone to support our Community Pantry project by casting their vote on the link below.
