YMCA Taunton is delighted to announce that construction work on its much-anticipated redevelopment project will begin on 29 July 2024, following the successful acquisition of a £2 million grant from the Youth Investment Fund. The project, due for completion in early 2025, marks a significant milestone in the YMCA’s commitment to enhancing community services and much needed youth facilities.
The redevelopment will modernise and expand the current facilities, providing state-of-the-art amenities and improved spaces designed to better serve the needs of our younger members. New facilities will include:
- a climbing wall
- a new training kitchen
- a chill-out zone
- audio/video studio
- new meeting rooms
- an extension
- a new roof
These new and improved facilities will offer a wide range of opportunities and activities for youth groups, young people, and children, fostering a safe and engaging environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. The project aims to provide modern spaces that support educational, recreational, and social activities, ensuring a positive impact on the local community’s younger population.
YMCA Taunton are pleased to be collaborating once again with Wrencon Ltd following the successful completion of previous projects. Their expertise and dedication to quality have been invaluable to us in the past, and we look forward to continuing our partnership. The project will be managed by Ridge and Partners LLP ensuring that the work is carried out efficiently and to the highest standards.
While the construction is underway, we are committed to minimising disruption to our members and the broader community. The centre will remain open for the majority of the construction period, ensuring that our essential services continue to be available. However, to ensure safety and efficiency, there will be a brief closure for several weeks in August. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the community’s patience and understanding during this time. Importantly, some facilities, such as the preschool and astroturf, will remain unaffected throughout the project.
Centre closure: 9 August – 3 September
“This is a transformative moment for YMCA Taunton. The new facilities will allow us to better serve our community with enhanced programmes and services. We are grateful for the support from the Youth Investment Fund and excited to see the positive impact this project will have on our members and the broader Taunton community.”
Clare Langley, General Manager
